| dc.description | The essay explores an architectural approach centred on vitality, openness, and adaptability. This approach is inspired by Josef Frank’s belief that meaningful design should embrace all aspects of contemporary life. Rather than being predetermined, the architectural design process is framed as collaborative and evolving. Architecture is considered a 'living' system that is continuously shaped by the interaction between architects and inhabitants. The lived experience becomes the basis for decision-making, enabling spatial solutions to evolve organically from everyday realities, rather than being imposed by stylistic intentions. Building on Josef Frank's concept of accidentism, this results in intuitive, almost accidental architecture that appears to grow naturally out of necessity. Central to this method is a shift in the architect’s role from author to facilitator. By embracing participation, the process allows for unpredictability and iterative development, whereby ideas are tested and refined over time. Instead of merely accommodating design parameters, they are transformed into concrete spatial strategies. Despite its openness, this approach does not lead to arbitrariness. Instead, it produces a coherent and resilient structure that is flexible enough to adapt to changing needs while maintaining a clear identity. Ultimately, the project demonstrates how architecture can meaningfully reflect the complexity of life by integrating diversity, uncertainty, and lived experience into its core. | |
